Improvement in Corrosion Resistance of Magnesium-Aluminum Alloy Via Friction Stir Processing
نویسندگان
چکیده
Friction stir processing was done for surface modification of cast Magnesium-Aluminum alloy. The microstructural characteristics related to different phases untreated alloy, friction processed under process parameters like rotational speeds at 380rpm and 545 rpm with 31.5 mm/min transverse speed without pure aluminum powder were investigated by Metallurgical microscopy lower magnification scanning electron higher magnification. Pure fine size (~19µm) filled in the groove made center alloy plate which cover 33 vol% during processing. electrochemical behavior using Potentiostat 5 wt % sodium chloride (NaCl) solution.Surface all conditions specimens analyzed present on X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD) revealed peaks α-Mg phase, β-phases (Mg17Al12) Aluminum . In double pass these observed. corrosion tests least rate (0.603 X 102mpy) amongst tested specimens. improvement resistance is because more formations dissolved phase.

متن کاملDuctility Improvement of an AZ61 Magnesium Alloy through Two-Pass Submerged Friction Stir Processing
Friction stir processing (FSP) has been considered as a novel technique to refine the grain size and homogenize the microstructure of metallic materials. In this study, two-pass FSP was conducted under water to enhance the cooling rate during processing, and an AZ61 magnesium alloy with fine-grained and homogeneous microstructure was prepared through this method. Compared to the as-cast materia...

Corrosion behavior of friction stir processing (FSP) WE43 alloy in a simulated body fluid (SBF) was investigated. Micro-galvanic corrosion was the dominated corrosion behavior, and the corrosion resistance of FSP WE43 alloy was improved compared to the cast counterpart. Furthermore, due to the fine-grained and homogeneous microstructure, uniform corrosion morphology was observed on FSP WE43 all...
متن کاملCorrosion behaviour of friction stir welded AZ61A magnesium alloy welds immersed in NaCl solutions
The extruded AZ61A magnesium alloy plates of 6 mm thickness were butt welded using friction stir welding (FSW) process. The corrosion behavior of the welds was evaluated by conducting immersion test in NaCl solution at different pH value, immersion time and chloride ion concentrations. An empirical relationship was established incorporating pH value, immersion time and chloride ion concentratio...
متن کاملAnalysis and Comparison of Friction Stir Welding and Laser Assisted Friction Stir Welding of Aluminum Alloy
Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid-state joining process; i.e., no melting occurs. The welding process is promoted by the rotation and translation of an axis-symmetric non-consumable tool along the weld centerline. Thus, the FSW process is performed at much lower temperatures than conventional fusion welding, nevertheless it has some disadvantages. Laser Assisted Friction Stir Welding (LAFS...
